Dairy Queen reports COVID-19 case at Mall at Marathon location

Dairy Queen (Bahamas) yesterday refuted claims that its Cable Beach location was closed following a case of COVID-19.

The company announced on Friday that it closed its location at The Mall at Marathon for sanitization after an employee, who was already away from the store for a week on sick leave, had tested positive for COVID-19.

Operations Manager for Dairy Queen Crystal Campbell said even though the case was only at the mall location, out of an abundance of caution, the company decided to disinfect and sanitize all of its locations over the long weekend for the health and safety of employees and customers.

“As a precautionary measure, because we could have had persons from anywhere coming into any one of our locations who could have had COVID-19, we had all of our locations cleaned, disinfected and sanitized. Given the fact that we would have been on the lockdown for a couple of days, that would have been the perfect opportunity to have it done,” Campbell told Guardian Business yesterday.

“The confirmed case we had at the mall location, she would not have been to work for a week prior to her confirmation. She was not feeling well and she was out sick already and then she decided to go to the doctor because it got worse and she tested positive for COVID-19.”

Dairy Queen said the employees that worked with the confirmed case are currently under quarantine and no other employees have been confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19.

Campbell said when its mall location opens tomorrow, different staff will be on location to carry out operations.

“Due to the weekend lockdowns and reduced hours, we haven’t had where we needed another employee to work at any other location. So, nobody who was working at the mall would have been working at Cable Beach or working at the southwest location. So, that was not the case either. So, all of the mall location employees are presently on quarantine, but when we do open up tomorrow, these employees that would be operating, would be employees from one of the other locations. No other location would have had anybody that has tested positive or said that they were sick or anything,” she said.

“We want our fans to know that their safety is of utmost importance. The safety of our employees, as well, is of utmost importance. So, we want to make sure as a precautionary measure and seeing as we would have had persons in and out of the location, we said let’s sanitize all of our locations.”

Dairy Queen said it remains committed to closely following the international franchise’s health and safety guidelines, as well as all directives from the government and the Ministry of Health to safeguard its valued fans and employees.
