Sandals Resorts will not open its Royal Bahamian location until November 1, according to a statement sent to its travel partners, while Sandals Emerald Bay on Exuma is scheduled to open on July 2, as the company carries out a phased reopening.
Sandals’ statement, which was acquired by Guardian Business, revealed the opening dates and lauded the Caribbean resort chain’s reopening of Sandals Grande Antigua on June 4.
The statement does not offer insight into why the opening of the Royal Bahamian has been pushed back to the last quarter of the year, but the resort joins Sandals Halcyon on St. Lucia, which also has an opening date of November 1.
The opening of several other resorts have been pushed back to October, namely Sandals South Coast and Sandals Royal Plantation, on Jamaica. Sandals Negril is slated to open on August 7 and Sandals Ocho Rios on September 3, while Barbados openings are yet to be announced.
The resort chain said it has spent the last few months, as countries were locked down due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bolstering its health and safety protocols in preparation for reopening its resorts.
“We have spent the last several months strengthening every element of our health and safety practices so that guests can vacation with confidence,” the statement pointed out.
“Our Sandals Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness will be in full effect across all of our resort locations. This begins the moment guests arrive at our airport lounges, through the entirety of their resort experience.”
While the resort is not carrying out any redundancies at this time, this paper understands that contracts that have expired over the lockdown period may not be renewed, and that new employees still within their probation period may not return given the circumstances created by COVID-19. It is understood those affected would be given whatever packages are due to them.
Sandals told its travel partners in the statement that it looks forward to “making up for lost time” caused by COVID-19.
“Your valued partnership during this time is something we are proud to foster,” the company stated.
