Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis’ latest emergency orders allow a wide range of businesses to resume operations, including schools, daycare centers, restaurants and gaming houses with some restrictions.
In addition to various government offices, public hospitals, the judiciary and food distribution centers, other businesses allowed to operate include grocery stores; pharmacies; gas stations; hardware stores; water depots; private medical facilities (for certain services); dental practices (for emergency care).
Additionally, commercial banks, international banks; financial services, with no more than 10 employees; money transmission services; pool maintenance or landscape service providers; retail bakeries; and news vendors are also allowed to operate.
These orders apply to Acklins, Abaco Andros, Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Crooked Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Mayaguana, New Providence (as of Monday) and Paradise Island (as of Monday).
Laundromats are also allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Retail businesses are permitted to open for delivery and curbside service.
Gaming House operators are also allowed to provide curbside, online and delivery services.
Wholesalers and retailers are allowed to operate daily.
Schools are permitted to open provided that all persons in attendance at the school wear a face mask, the premises are sanitized and physical distancing protocols are adhered to.
A person is allowed to operate a home school program provided that no more than five students are in attendance, unless permission is otherwise granted.
Preschools and daycare centers are permitted to open provided that all employees wear face masks and the premises are sanitized.
Weddings may be held with a limit of 10 attendees.
Funerals may be held at the graveside with a limit of 10 people. Repasts are not permitted.
Restaurants are allowed to operate between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. Outdoor dining (at 50 percent capacity), curbside pickup/delivery, drive-thru and takeaway are permitted.
Restaurants and food vendors at Fish Fry and Potter’s Cay Dock are prohibited from operating outdoor dining. The same goes for restaurants and food vendors at “Fish Fry” locations on Grand Bahama.
Taxi services may operate subject to the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism
Buses are prohibited from operating.
Casinos, bars, discos, cinemas, museums, gyms, libraries, and other cultural or entertainment facilities are not allowed to operate.
Spas, beauty salons and barbershops are not permitted to operate.
As of August 31, churches on New Providence may conduct services via live stream between the hours of 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. with no more than 10 people.
Beaches and parks will open between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. on New Providence and Grand Bahama. No more than five people are allowed in a single group.
“The COVID-19 Enforcement Unit shall be empowered to monitor beaches and parks to ensure the adherence to this order,” the order states.
Residents of Grand Bahama and New Providence remain confined to their immediate neighborhood and yards for exercise.
Construction is permitted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday to Friday and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
More commerce is allowed on Chub Cay, Harbour Island, Long Cay, Long Island, Ragged Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, and Spanish Wells.
On those islands, churches may conduct service in accordance with protocols established by the Bahamas Christian Council.
Schools are permitted to open provided that all persons in attendance at the school wear a face mask, the premises are sanitized and physical distancing protocols are adhered to.
Hair stylists, barbers and other cosmetologists may operate once certified by the Ministry of Health.
Not more than one patron per service provider is allowed.
Restaurants may operate indoor and outdoor dining at 50 percent occupancy. Patrons are required to wear a mask upon entry and exit.
Additionally, a person may host or attend a social gathering of 20 people or less.
Weddings and funerals may be held in a church in accordance with physical distancing protocols. Burials are limited to 30 people and repasts are limited to 20 people.
All public beaches and parks are open.
The orders took effect on Tuesday.
