Spartan coming to The Bahamas

In keeping with making The Bahamas a premier sports tourism destination, Atlantis will host the Spartan 2022 Kids World Championship set for August 25-28, 2022.

It is the first time that the event will be held outside of the United States of America (USA). It will also be the first time Spartan has staged the event since 2019 at which time it was held in Castaic, California.

Spartan is the world’s leading endurance sports and extreme wellness brand.

“These kids have proven themselves to be the best of the best in our sport,” said Spartan Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joe De Sena. “They’re fast. They’re tough as hell. They’re unbreakable. They’re all in for an adventure, testing their limits at one of the world’s most amazing destinations – but only four will go home with the title. Let’s do this.”

The four categories will have boys and girls in two age groups: 9-11 and 12-14. They will compete for a share of $20,000 in prizes and the title of Spartan Kids World Champion.

The championship race is scheduled for Saturday, August 27, which will feature the globe’s toughest junior Spartans encounter approximately 26 obstacles along a 2.99-mile course of sand, hardpack, water, and cement.

President and Managing Director at Atlantis Audrey Oswell said they are looking forward to the event.

“The accomplishments of these young athletes speak volumes about their incredible talent, dedication, and commitment to the sport,” said Oswell. “We look forward to welcoming the athletes, parents, coaches, and fans to cheer on these mighty competitors and share our authentic ‘Bahamas at Heart’ hospitality.”

Kids World Championship weekend will also feature a fast-paced Spartan City for parents and adults. Participants in that event will race three to five kilometers through the resort and onto the beach, braving challenges such as the gauntlet, paracord crawl, and a six-foot wall.

Spartan is a global

experiential sport and wellness brand with a 10 million-plus strong community. They create transformational experiences, products, and content to help people, companies and teams tear down boundaries and expand what they believe to be possible. Spartan combines large scale global events with a vibrant digital content and community platform. With 250 events across more than 40 countries on six continents, it boasts to be the world’s leading extreme wellness and endurance brand.

This event will add to the Atlantis sports calendar that includes the Battle 4 Atlantis men’s and women’s college basketball tournament, the Pink Sands men’s and women’s collegiate golf tournament, the BIG3 Basketball Championship, this year’s Don’t Blink Home Run Derby, and preseason camps for National Basketball Association (NBA) and college basketball teams, just to name a few.
