Lester Brown Jr. back in ring on November 27

He hasn’t been in the ring since February of this year but on Saturday, November 27 Bahamian featherweight boxer Lester Brown Jr. will be back in action at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

He is set to take on Puerto Rican Joshua Orta. Brown has a 4-3-3 win/loss/draw record while his opponent sports a perfect 7-0 win/loss record. Orta was last in the ring on August 8 of this year.

In his last two fights, Brown Jr. lost both of those by way of technical knockouts. He said he was not focused as much as he should have in those fights but he is more focused on the upcoming fight.

“This training for this fight is better than my last two training camp. For this training camp, I am 100 percent more focused and feel more confident. To be honest, I was not focused for the last two fights. I had a lot going on in my life but no excuses. At the end of the day they are learning experiences and it comes with the game,” Brown said.

He has been training with his father, Lester Brown Sr. and with his uncle, boxing legend, Ray Minus Jr.

Part of preparing for the fight was doing some homework on the opponent. He has been doing his homework on Orta.

“I watched him fight,” Brown said. “ I would say my advantages would be obviously faster and probably a longer reach. Skill wise I’m better. He’s more like a brawler where his style of boxing is coming forward and putting pressure so we are prepared for that.”

Known for his quickness and his elusiveness in the ring, the younger Brown said he has been working more on conditioning, strength and endurance. He has been critiqued for not having enough power to send his opponents to the mat.

“So far I feel I feel stronger because we were working on strength and conditioning, but we will have to see during the fight. For my last night, it was at a heavier weight. I fought two divisions above what I normally fight at so I was much smaller than my opponent,” Brown said.

During the layoff the Bahamian said he was traveling in Florida doing some sparring to stay in shape.

Back in 2018, Brown Jr. signed a contract with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions – run by retired boxer Roy Jones Jr. They stay in contact ensuring that The Bahamian trains hard, engaged and prepared for the upcoming fight.

Once he remains healthy after this fight, he is hoping to get another fight in before the year is out. He is looking at December 11 in New York.
