A man accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother and trying to murder his mother showed no emotion when he made his initial court appearance yesterday.
Rico Pratt, 29, allegedly stabbed his grandmother, Gelena Pratt, to death before attacking his mother, Aretha, with a knife at their home in Shabbach Close on December 4.
She managed to escape the home and alert neighbors. Aretha Pratt remains in hospital in critical condition.
When police arrived, they found her mother dead on the bathroom floor, authorities said.
Pratt, who did not have a lawyer, was not required to enter pleas to charges of murder and attempted murder when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.
He spoke only to confirm his date of birth and when the magistrate asked if he understood the proceedings.
Pratt said that he did.
Ferguson-Pratt remanded Pratt to prison until April 21.
When he appears before her on that date, prosecutors will fast-track the case to the Supreme Court with a voluntary bill of indictment.
