A customs officer accused of illegal firearm possession was yesterday granted emergency bail.
Police arrested Marco Smith Jr., 30, of Farmingdale Road, around 11 p.m. on December 5 after they found a .45 pistol in bushes on Munnings Road.
Officers claimed that they saw Smith throw an object from his car before they searched the area and found the weapon.
Smith denied a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.
Forbes refused Smith bail and set his trial for March 18, 2021.
However, Smith and his lawyer Bjorn Ferguson appeared before Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns a short time later for an emergency bail hearing.
She granted the law enforcement officer $10,000 bail.
