Dear Editor,
I would like to take the time to say a great big thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at PMH, especially to Dr. Braham and his team at the Maternity Ward.
I was to be admitted to the hospital on Monday, October 19, 2020. Dr. Richard Braham informed me on Saturday that I had tested positive for COVID-19.
I had taken the test the Friday prior.
Initially, when my doctor broke the news to me about the COVID test result, I was afraid and worried about my baby and myself, plus concerned about how I would tell close family members.
Additionally, I was worried about how I would be treated at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
I was terrified that I would be isolated and placed somewhere extremely far where I would not be attended to properly.
My fear was heightened as I was having a C-section and would be immobile for a time. I began to pray to God to help me through the ordeal.
Dr. Braham informed me to come in for the C-section that Monday instead of Sunday as previously scheduled. I assume this was a precautionary measure to protect the staff and other patients on the ward.
My doctor further told me that when I arrived on Monday I should stay in the vehicle as further instruction would be given.
To my surprise, I was given the red-carpet treatment.
I was initially greeted from a distance by one of the nurses waving from the clear glass, beckoning to me to enter.
She had on her hazmat suit which looked very scary. She was very nice, which made me feel very comfortable.
We engaged in “small talk”, which made me smile and for some reason, even though she was wearing a mask, I knew she was smiling also.
As the nurse and I walked and talked, we arrived at my room, and I observed that the room was better than the one I was initially scheduled to occupy.
I was isolated, but I was very comfortable. I could hear persons passing by and the nurses and doctors kept checking my vitals with their space looking suits on.
As I was prepped for the theatre for the C-section, I observed that everything appeared state-of-the-art.
That gave me a large degree of comfort.
Each of the staff treated me with utmost care and respect each mile of the way. They kept reassuring me that I would be taken care of, that my baby and I would be fine.
They not only said it, but meant it by their heroic actions.
I will forever be grateful and thankful to Dr. Braham and his team at PMH for an exceptional and well-done job.
Sincerely,
A mom forever grateful
