Woman charged with public terror

A woman accused of claiming to be COVID-19-positive was freed on $500 bail.

Prosecutors say Evette Wilson, 27, of Malcolm Road, caused public terror by claiming to have the infectious disease that has killed over 300,000 people worldwide.

Wilson allegedly made the claim on May 13.

She denied the charge at her arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes yesterday. Her trial is set for July 14.

Wilson was also charged with breaking the curfew designed to stem the spread of COVID-19.

She pleaded guilty and was fined $300 or two months in prison.
