A university student who admitted to hacking into a woman’s Snapchat account got off with a warning yesterday.
Wayne Carey, 18, of Scott Street, pleaded guilty to unauthorized access to computer material at an arraignment before Magistrate Ambrose Armbrister.
According to the prosecution, Adeisha Wilson noticed that someone had accessed her Snapchat account on April 20. She reported the matter to police, and they arrested Carey after tracing his IP address.
When the officers checked Carey’s phone they found Wilson’s Snapchat information, the court heard.
In mitigation, defense lawyer Ian Cargill asked the court to admonish Carey.
Cargill said that Carey was a music performance major at Central State University.
Armbrister found the charge proven. However, he did not move to conviction.
The magistrate told Carey that absolute discharges were rare.
He said, “If you find yourself before the courts again, don’t expect for this to happen again.
“You need to focus on your studies and stay out of trouble.”
