Woman charged with injuring two-year-old

A39-year-old woman accused of assaulting a toddler was yesterday remanded to prison.

Brendamae Lewis, of Dunmore Street, pleaded guilty to injuring the two-year-old boy at her arraignment before Magistrate Ambrose Armbrister.

Prosecutors allege that Lewis, while drunk, went into the child’s room, knocked over a fan and fell on top of the child, causing injuries.

However, Armbrister was not satisfied that the prosecutor’s summary showed that Lewis’ actions were intentional.

As a result, Armbrister refused to accept the guilty plea and adjourned the matter for trial in September.

Armbrister advised Lewis of her right to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
