Minister of National Security Marvin Dames yesterday shot down questions about the futures of Royal Bahamas Defence Force Commodore Tellis Bethel and Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson.

Both men are on leave.

“I’m not going to go down that road,” Dames said.

“The commissioner of police is on leave. He’s entitled to leave. And the commodore is on leave.

“As I said before, as we move forward, if there’s anything that we feel you ought to know, we’ll be more than happy to share it.

“But it’s a non-story at this point.”

Bethel was placed on leave on October 15, 2019. He was expected to return to work last month, but it did not happen.

In October, Dames told The Nassau Guardian that “no one knows what’s next” for Bethel after he completes his mandatory three-month leave.

However, in December, the minister insisted that Bethel had not been fired.

Last month, Dames said Ferguson was “nearing the end” of his time as commissioner.

He has been on medical leave for several weeks.
