Avery Point is located on the eastern shore of the Thames River right where the river meets the ocean. It's a fairly shallow site, about 12' deep max, with rocky and sandy bottom composition. The best time to dive here is at slack due to currents. Pull into the parking lot on Rita Santa Croce drive and go to the far end. You will see a staircase that allows entry into the water. It's a very rocky entry so stay to the right and work your way out to waist deep water and put your fins on there. Head straight into the river until you hit the rock line at about 12' and follow the rock line on a heading of about 180 degrees. Definitely watch for currents and don't go too far out or it will be a long swim back.
