Niantic night class/lobster dive, 48 degrees.
Three of us went to Pleasure Beach in niantic Saturday night to finish up some certification dives. The water was calm and there was no wind. Normally we don't enter the water off the boat launch because it pisses of the boaters, but at 7:00pm nobody was around so we took the liberty.
Normally the visibility is low here but this time it was pretty good at about 10 feet. For some reason there were tons of hermit crabs, more than usual. Lots of small lobster but the keepers stayed in the rocks where we couldn't dig them out.

Avery Point SCUBA Diving
Avery Point is located on the eastern shore of the Thames River right where the river meets the ocean. It's a fairly shallow site, about 12' deep max, with rocky and sandy bottom composition. The best time to dive here is at slack due to currents. Pull into the parking lot on Rita Santa Croce drive and go to the far end. You will see a staircase that allows entry into the water. It's a very rocky entry so stay to the right and work your way out to waist deep water and put your fins on there. Head straight into the river until you hit the rock line at about 12' and follow the rock line on a heading of about 180 degrees. Definitely watch for currents and don't go too far out or it will be a long swim back.
